The Piano
In the end, I still think that the piano should not be sold because that piano is based on the family's past. Berniece and Boy Willie family members took care of that piano as if it was another member of the family that they need to fight for. A "character" in a drama is the people in the play. It is believed that a character in a drama reveals their qualities and attributes in a few telling scenes. Yes, for me the piano has become a "character" in the play since the beginning because of everything that piano has passed through. Each member of Berniece and Boy Willie put their soul into the piano and memories. The conflict towards the piano is compelling more because it seems like there is more about the piano's history that hasn't been told yet.The piano representation has not change for me. In my perspective, the piano is something very significant in the play because it is the one that brings everything together and the drama that is occurring. The piano for me represents the family's history and the family's history cannot be sold or forgotten. It cannot be sold or forgotten because it represents of who you really are. Without the piano you would not really know who you are in this world and what is your significance in this world.

The Piano Lesson: Impression of Wining Boy

Impression of Wining Boy
As I was reading The Piano Lesson Act 1 Scene 2 by August Wilson Wining Boy gave me the impression of being someone that everybody could trust. Wining Boy would have your back no matter what and does not care what other people think about him. Wining Boy is only being himself that shows that he would actually speak out.The reason why I say this is because he is supporting Berniece about not selling the piano. The piano represents her family's past. The piano helps her understand more about the struggles of her family. Wining Boy seems like someone that does not care about the money, but more about his values and family. The two things that we know about Wining Boy is that he was married to Cleotha who died and he was ten years older than Cleotha. Wining Boy is totally different from Boy Willie and Lymon because Boy Willie and Lymon are more interested on selling the piano and getting the hundred land of acre.Boy Willie and Wining Boy knows what they want and they would fight for it until they get it. Doaker, Avery, and Wining Boy are alike because they all care about Berniece and understand the importance of the piano to Berniece.
Everything changed when I started reading The Piano Lesson Act 2 Scene 1 because Wining Boy was obsessed with other things. The other things Wining Boy is obsessed with is drinking and gambling. When someone starts drinking and gambling, than it means that we cannot trust that person. You never know if that person is going to put you in problems or may take advantage of the person's generosity.

My mother was born and raised in Los Amates , Guatemala . She is the oldest of five siblings. My mother, her brothers and sister would always be trouble makers, but when my grandmother always wanted to discipline them, She could not punish them. My grandfather would always stop them before getting in trouble. My mother, uncles and aunts would always get what they wanted until 1976. There was an earthquake that caused their entire neighborhood to be destroyed. A few months passed when someone killed my grandfather, Elfego Estrada. That is when my mother started changing her attitude, because she lost part of herself. My mother started working, because she noticed that my grandmother was worried and depressed. My mother would go to people’s home and say that my grandmother would make some specific kind of food. The people would order food and my mother would take the order to my grandmother.
My mother always wanted to have a better life, so she can help her family. She would always tell my grandmother to let her come to the United States, but she would always say no. My mother would never ask anything to my grandmother and my mom never thought that she was going to go to some other city in Guatemala. She went and graduated from Instituto Nacional Senoritas De Oriente(INSO). The years she was in the INSO, she was living in a apartment that my grandmother paid for. My mother would always be studying, working, and staying home. She would never go to parties because she knew that my grandmother trusted her. In this all girls college, there was an event very important to Guatemala in September 15. The girl or boy that had the highest GPA in class would be able to carry the flag in the festival. This event was very important because it showed the Independence of Guatemala. My mom was the one that carried the flag, and she felt very privileged. When my mom got her Bachelors of Education at INSO, she made an agreement that she would leave Guatemala when she gets her opportunity.
It was a beautiful ride for her from Guatemala to Tijuana, but when she arrived near the boarder, it became yough and difficult. In the car, the back seat was ripped off. My mother was the skinniest one of all the people in the car, so she was the first one put inside the back seat. Then, everybody else went on top of her. When my mother arrived to the United States, she did not know anyone except her uncle. It took her a long time to get a job because nobody believed her age. When she finally found a job it was not that easy because they treated here like as if she was cheap labor. When this happened, she told my uncle and my uncle told her to quit. She quit, but the owner did not want to give her the money she earned.
A year later she met my father Javier Aldana. They were going out for a year, and then they decided to get married. A year later I was born, but there was a problem. The problem was that my father lost his job, and they did not have money to buy milk. My mother did not have enough money she decided to work when I was only forty days old. Three years passed when my mother had my brother, Junior. When she was pregnant she got diabetes, so there was a risk that one of them dies. The only way they would not die if my mother only ate healthy food. In the end, they both were okay. For a long time, my mother was the one that took the risk of having two children and my brother was the only grandson of my grandmother. Everything changed when my uncle had a boy and right now my aunt is pregnant with a baby boy.
My mother has always been working. You would never actually see her sitting down, and watching television. My mother for us is a mother, doctor,a taxi driver, best friend, counselor, and a business worker. If you are wondering how she looks, you are actually seeing her through me. We both look exactly alike, and people always think that we are sisters. My mother has always said that the reason she is here is because of her children. She wants us to have a better life, than she did. Many girls and boys who see my mother think that she is really mean and strict, but she is not. Well she is strict, but I know that she does it, because she wants us to have a better life and to be successful in life. She is not mean. She is one of those mothers that would always be there for you and support you in anything if she believes its the right thing to do.

Response: Jim Crow
Life is an adventure of ups and downs. There would be days that you would just want to give up in life. If we give up in life, than there would not be any chance of hope and success in this world. There would be people that would be saying that you can not do it, but you must show those people wrong. If you believe in yourself, than you would be able to overcome anything that passes through you.
As I was reading “ Mee Street Chronicles: Tales of Jim Crow” by Frankie Lennon and “Racial Etiquette” by Ronald L. F. Davis it made me feel ashamed of what the white people are capable to do to the African Americans. It’s just not fair that the African Americans needed to pass through these obstacles because of their color of their skin. It’s ABSURD. We all have the same rights. It does not matter where you come from, what religion you believe in, your customs, color of skin, education, and beliefs. Nobody should be called names either because it’s just disrespectful. The Golden Rule says “You should treat others the way that you would want to be treated.” The only thing that matters right now is you and respect. Just being yourself.
There is another thing that I did notice between “Tales of Jim Crow” and “Racial Etiquette” and that is that we pass through the same experiences. Everybody has been called names that made you feel really embarrassed, but we have been able to overcome it. Everybody has felt one time in their life that they were treated the way that they should not be treated, but we have been able to overcome it too. I know that life is not even easy because of everything that is happening right now in the world, but we need to show that we have to courage, strength, and a voice. We having a voice shows other people that we have a voice that shows others we are capable of doing anything.
In the “Tales of Jim Crow” the narrator was not treated the same way as the white, yet we do not do anything. I believe that it’s time for a change. One person can bring a lot of change to this world and make the world a better place. We need to stop discriminating and bringing people down only because of their background. Everybody here in this world has free will and it’s time to use it. I think that if we do not bring change to all these wrong decisions and actions, than this world would become something that you would not want to be at.
Living a life of happiness is something that everybody dreams off. It is possible, but if everybody puts themselves involve for a change. I agree with the author that history should not be erased. Well, the history of the author life and my life would help us become a better person and learned from our mistakes. The past is something that can never be forgotten because it defines who you are and what you would become in the future.

The Nobel Peace Prize
As President Obama said when he won the presidency is it would not be a easy journey, but it would be a "new beginning." This "new beginning" would be made of easy and difficult decisions, but in the end everything would come out the way it needs to come out. As I was reading "Obama: Noble award a 'call to action'for world" I got shocked that Obama said that he felt that he did not deserve this award. In reality, I think that Obama does deserve this world because it would help him understand and know what his goal for his people is. This prize would become a symbol of his success and his capacity toward everything that is happening to this world. In my perspective, he already did something that President Bush did not do when he was President. President Obama has brought different multi-cultural people in the government of the United States. I know that their were people that does not agree that he should get this award, but in reality he does. The reason he does deserve this award is because he has showed us his capacity through these ten months. I believe in President Obama's capacity. he would bring all the people together and their finally would bring justice and peace in this world.

Friends one day your enemies the next day

Friends One Day Your Enemies The Next Day
A week after graduation my supposed best friend at the time Dolores, Yamili and other girls in our group were giving me advice, but in reality they were bullying me. I got a message through MySpace saying that I needed to pay them two hundred dollars within two weeks and if not, they were going to tell my mom that I have a boyfriend and that I was supposedly having sex adventures. When I got that message, I did not know what to do. I knew that if I told my mom she would become upset with me, so I told my brother Jose, and he sent them a message telling them to back off, or they are going to have problems with him. I still did not feel tranquil, so I told my boyfriend Daniel and my big brother Walter. All three of them told me to calm down, because they were not going to do anything to me. If they do, then they would have to face them. I tried to forget about everything, but in reality I knew this was not going to end. Another girl named Christine told me she could not believe how I had changed, and she never knew that I could act this way. I got tired of always being taken advantage of. They would take advantage of me by allowing them to copy my homework, letting them eat my food, and letting them say anything about me without saying anything back to them. I knew I needed to change.
This conflict started in April when they were judging my prom dress. According to them, it was the same color as another girl in my senior class, but in reality it was a different color. Dolores started saying that I was a slut, like Yamili’s ex boyfriend’s friends would say about me because I did not want to get with his friend Randy. Then the conflicts between Yamili, Dolores, and I started increasing. They were talking bad about my big brother, Walter and me. They were saying that we were together because of the way we were acting during prom. After all this conflict passed, I decided to talk to Daniel, a senior from Cathedral high school, but for the girls it was a bad decision. It was a bad decision because he was supposedly only with me to play around. The thing that got me more frustrated was that they did not know him and they were already judging him.
In July, the drama with the girls was increasing. My boyfriend Daniel’s friend sent them messages saying to stop because it was already going too far, but that didn’t stop them to keep bulling me. On July 16th, at 10:30p.m., I knew that it was my turn to stop this, so I decided to call Dolores. I asked her what is the reason why she was doing this because we were best friends since freshmen year of high school. She said that I was talking bad about her, but I was not. We were both screaming through the phone and I told her that we should leave all this drama behind because we both are in college. We are not in high school anymore. After I stormed out of my dorm, I hid in the restroom for about ten minutes. Nobody knew where I was, but when I came out, my blood pressure went really down. I almost fainted, but my friend Shareen was able to catch me. The next day, I got a call from Dolores saying, “Why don’t we try to solve this problem?” Me being so gullible, called her back, but when I called her back it was not pretty. When I called her, she was telling that I needed to do everything that she tells me to do. The problem is that she did not even know what she wanted me to do. The only thing that Dolores, Yamili, Christine, Veronica, Steven, and Marcela knew was that they wanted revenge. When I called her back, I thought we were going to solve our problems. Even though I knew that our friendship would not be the same again, it really hurt because we were best friends. She answered the phone, already knowing that there was going to be catch to it, I wasn’t too sure what she wanted, but I knew there was a scent of revenge in the air. Their priority was to get revenge no matter who they hurt. I started becoming more frightened because they threatened me that they were going to send the Mexican Mafia to come after me. I didn’t know what to do, I was last, confused, and scared for my life. One question kept going through my mind, what am I going to do?
This was when I knew that I could not control this anymore and I needed to ask mature people, like my parents, for help. During that time, I did not care if my mother would get mad at me, but I knew that she would help me no matter what. I am still her daughter. I was shocked when my mom told me that she was not mad at me, but she was worried because she knew these girls would not just leave it at that, they always crossed the line. I say this because they were the type that stole a girl’s I-pod because they did not like her anymore and stole food from the cafeteria. I knew that I am not going to pay the money, and I am not going to do what they tell me to do because I’m not a servant for them. Everybody started telling me to not answer the calls I don’t know.
Alexis’s dad is part of the FBI, and they have known me for four years and have cared about me a lot. They became worried, so they told me that I should put a restriction order. At first, I was thinking about it because my safety is important, but then I did not want it to happen because we been best friends since freshmen year of high school. I knew that Dolores’s boyfriend would go straight to jail because he already had a record in the police department. Alexis’s mom talked to her parents and they already knew what was happening but they were shocked because they never thought that their daughter would do that. The other girl’s parents still do not know.
It has already been three months since this drama has calmed down. Even though this friendship is over already it is still hard for me to trust those girls that call themselves my friends. Actually nobody won in this drama because in both ways everybody got hurt. Because of them I can no longer go to Santa Monica or walk around any streets. I am scared that they may do something to me. Since I can not drive to school, my parents drop me off inside the campus. I have not gotten any calls, but I know them really well. I know that they are going to let time pass, so I can feel confident that nothing would happen to me.
The lesson that I learned from this bullying is that you never really know who your friends really are. They may act one way in front of you and act another way when you are not there. Since the whole drama, I have noticed that you can’t tell secrets to other girls as they will reveal them. Even though they told me a lot of secrets, I am not going to say anything. As they told me those secrets, I decided not to say anything because we were friends. Friends do not want the worst for you. They want the best for you. So be careful and do not believe them when they say that they would never get mad at you because that is not true. Do not let other people tell you what to do; you should be able to make your own decisions. I have become stronger, and I have learned from my mistakes, which will help me in the future.

The First Week of College
Aldana, Jennifer
September 5th, 2009
Prompt #1
The first week of College
As I walked through the campus of the school I knew that this won’t be as easy as many people say it is, but I had an open mind on everything. I knew that this would be a place where I can focus on my on going success. I wasn’t really terrified or scared when I entered the school, because I already knew some girls that have become my friends. I became very involved with school by joining ISAE, Summers Skills and the Campus Ministry Core Team. As I entered my first class on August 24th, 2009 at 9:10 in the morning, it caused me to become nervous, because I didn’t have all my materials that I needed for class. I was worried that the teacher would scream at me and tell me that I was very irresponsible. The first week of college for me was very frustrating mainly due to book issues.
I know that the hard work I did in high school has paid off, because I have my tuition paid without having to apply for loans. The only issue that has been worrying me is my books. Many people think that my family is extremely well off, but in reality we aren’t. Textbooks for nursing are not cheap, and I needed to find a way to help my family by not spending too much on textbooks. I know that if I bought all my materials from the bookstore, than I would have wasted approximately five hundred and eighteen dollars. There are handbooks that are small and big. Right now, the one that is more expensive is my biology textbook. So I decided to find a website where I can buy my handbooks for a lesser expense. Approximately I have wasted two hundred and forty eight dollars right now on textbooks, but I still need to buy my biology book. I found a website and ordered my books, but an obstacle was put in my path. My biology textbook hasn’t arrived yet, because supposedly my book got damaged while coming over here. The thing that frustrated me more is that it took them seventeen days to notify me. I know that I need that book ASAP, but I know that it would take a while if I reordered it online. I’m worried that my professor will become frustrated or annoyed by the third week of school for not having my biology materials. The solution for this problem is that I converse with my biology professor and tell her what is happening with my handbook. I can show them proof that I did order it, but it didn’t come, because it got damaged. The only way I can do my homework for this class is by going go to the library and use the book for two hours.
August 28th, 2009 was the end of my first week in college and it has taught me that college won’t be easy. I know that I need to study and believe in myself, because with that, success is guaranteed. I know that it won’t be the same as high school where the teachers would tell you what you need to do and tell you that you need to do your homework. Everything depends on yourself if you want to become successful in life. I know that I have the love and support of many, and that gives me great strength.
